My core approach to psychotherapy is greatly influenced by the humanistic therapies. This means that, my role as a therapist is to help you sort through your pain and confusion and connect with your own personal wisdom and resources so that you may achieve the goals that are meaningful for you. As the therapeutic relationship is essential for successful therapy, I always strive to bring my warmth, genuineness, presence (i.e. being fully engaged), and acceptance to each of our sessions.
I use a variety of techniques when working with clients. However, I tend to place particular emphasis on your emotions – helping you become more aware of what your emotions are trying to reveal about your wants and desires. I am also committed to working collaboratively and in a culturally competent way. Therefore, I always keep in mind, how your multiple identities (race/culture, class, sexuality, gender, religion, etc.) influence your life and the issues that you bring to therapy.
I am a certified member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I am also in the process of registering with the new College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO).
My training and academic background includes: Masters in Counselling Psychology, University of Toronto (OISE); Honours undergraduate degree in Psychology, York University. I have also attended several professional development workshops on mindfulness.
I help young adults and adults with the following issues:
