Naturopathic Medicine is its own system of medicine. Combining up-to-date clinical research with traditional and natural therapies, naturopathic medicine focuses on supporting the body’s innate capacity to heal. You can see a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) for support with any condition – acute or chronic.
My approach to both diagnosis and care is tailored to each patient’s individual health history and concerns. After a thorough intake, we discuss all available treatment options and then together decide on what is realistically achievable in terms of lifestyle or dietary changes (i.e. financial or time constraints), the affordability of herbal remedies, nutritional supplements and follow-up treatments, and other factors that shape what is really feasible and with a lasting effect.
I first got into Naturopathic Medicine while working as a journalist in Beirut. Some of my family and friends there used local herbal and other kinds of traditional medicine on a day-to-day basis. During that time, I started to think more seriously about the connections between bodily, mental and spiritual health and the larger socio-economic and cultural context. Then, back in Toronto, a friend recommended I see a holistic medicine practitioner for a health issue at the time. I appreciated how the Naturopathic Doctor took the time to get a detailed picture of what was happening with my overall health, and then involved me in my care. Over the years I have developed a special interest in hormonal health, mental health and autoimmune conditions.
The most common conditions I see in my practice are:
· Thyroid disorders (hypoactive and hyperactive)
· Auto-immune conditions (Hashimoto’s, Graves’, Rheumatoid Arthritis)
· Digestive concerns (Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s, Celiac)
· Skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, acne)
· Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
· Hormonal concerns (menopause, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
· Anxiety, depression
· Insomnia and stress.
