Rate:$226, $180, or $136 for the 8-week series (HST incl.)
(i.e. ~ $25, $20, or $15 for every 2-hour class)
*We need 6 people to pay $180, 2 people to pay $226 and 2 people to pay $136 to run the class. When 10 people sign up, we can have 5 PWYC spots for BIPOC folks.

Have you ever wanted to try ballet or contemporary dance but felt intimidated or have done it but didn’t like the elitism? This dance workshop shares the joys of dance & its technical aspects in an affirming environment!

Taught by Sze-Yang Ade-Lam, a founding member of ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company, Feel Ur Body is a 6-week series of dance classes that focuses on feeling your body while learning dance. Sze-Yang works to create a judgement free space where everybody is valued and positive energy and affirmation are encouraged, so that people feel more comfortable exploring dance and movement while connecting with their bodies. This will be done through the medium of Ballet & Contemporary Dance that is heavily influenced by the energetic awareness of Kung Fu and musicality of Hip Hop & Street Styles. This class welcomes those who are completely new to dance and people with prior dance experience.

Each class will begin with warm ups, stretching & body conditioning, leading to ballet and contemporary barre exercises and movement in the centre of the room, and conclude with movement that travels through the space! Some of the benefits people may experience through this workshop but are not limited to are:

  • Developing a connected relationship to mind, body, energy, and dancing spirit
  • Greater health and well being
  • Growth in strength, flexibility, and fitness!

Sze-Yang Ade-Lam is a queer asian dancer, martial artist, storyteller & community developer, who has taught, choreographed, and performed internationally. Sze-Yang shares stories through movement for self love, empowerment, and liberation as an independent artist and as part of ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company. Sze-Yang is committed to creating more accessible dance education and performance opportunities for people underrepresented in the arts. A graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, Sze-Yang continues to study Ballet with Xing Bang Fu, Simon Lalonde, and Christine Wright, Wing Chun with Ryan Kennedy, Hip Hop and Street Styles.
