As of November 26th, we will be operating in our new location:
1490 Dundas Street West (just west of Dufferin)
In mid-September, we received notice from our landlords stating they would be doing renovations that require us to move out. We were surprised and sad to learn that our current location will be a part of the landscape of gentrification in Chinatown. We went through many feelings; shock, sadness, disbelief and are now relieved to move into a smaller, more efficient space and refine our integrative clinic.
Needless to say, this is stressful. We’ve been operating out of this beautiful space for the last seven years and have been on Spadina for over eleven! With the current real estate market, we feared we wouldn’t be able to find a space anywhere that would fit our needs and budget….
but we did!
Our new space will be a physically smaller version of Six Degrees. We will have a Community Acupuncture clinic, two private treatment rooms and over half of our practitioners are moving with us to this ground level storefront on Dundas West. With this storefront we only need a small ramp for increased access, but the bathrooms are inaccessible to some as they are down a flight of stairs in the basement. We are glad to be at street level, but we know bathrooms in the basement do not make for accessible space. We are looking in the neighbourhood for street level bathrooms and will do the work of checking out if we can use those bathrooms without hassle for our clients.
We hope to have a rather seamless transition from our current space to the new location, with our move being scheduled on the weekend of November 24 & 25 and operations commencing in the new space on Monday Nov 26.
This is a big change for all of us, clients, practitioners and staff. We made every effort to stay in Chinatown, but the commercial rental rates have gone up by three times the amount since we first moved in and it was impossible to afford a space in the neighbourhood that was either ground level or had an elevator.
We will let go of our current space together and hope to transition to Dundas West with every single one of you. We want to share our excitement about the possibilities that this new space will bring. In the coming weeks, we will continue business as usual while also renovating and setting up the new clinic. We hope to have a dance party before we leave, and invite all of you to join us under the disco ball as we say good bye to Spadina and say hello to Dundas West.
If you have any question or concern, please do not hesitate to send us an email or talk to one of us at your next visit. We want to offer you our support and are open to receiving your support and thoughts too!
